Devon Wedding Venue. 6 TIPS FOR FINDING THAT SPECIAL WEDDING DRESS

Having chosen our stunning exclusive wedding venue in Devon for your special day, your thoughts will now be turning to the next big decision, ‘the wedding dress’.

Shopping for your wedding dress is probably one of the most exciting and anticipated pre-wedding moments for any bride.  Lakeview Manor likes to think of itself as not only a unique very special and beautiful wedding venue in Devon, but also as the ‘most helpful client focused wedding venue in Devon’.

All brides quite rightly want to look and feel amazing on their special day so in order to assist you here are our top 6 tips for finding that ‘perfect’ wedding dress.

1. ‘WINDOW SHOP’ FIRST

You have most likely got an idea of the style of gown, colour and material you like already, and will have preferences as to whether you want lace, satin, bling, backless, white or ivory, and so on.  Visualising the perfect gown for you can be daunting as there are so many to choose from nowadays. In order to help you with some ideas we have a board on our Pinterest account

(Pinterest.com/LakeviewManor) with hundreds of wedding dress examples for you to browse through at your leisure.  We are confident this will be of help to you, and please feel free to ‘pin’ any examples you particularly like onto your own Pinterest board for future reference.  In fact, we have numerous Pinterest boards in connection with weddings, so please do feel free to ‘pin’ any other ideas from any of our other wedding boards which you may feel will be helpful to you as well during your wedding planning phase.  You could, of course, make a scrapbook of all your favourite dresses for reference and incorporate pictures from magazines, and from the internet in general.

Once you have shortlisted a few wedding dresses you like you will need to research on the internet which bridal shops stock the designs you particularly like, as most bridal shops do not stock or have access to every designers wedding gowns.

2. MAKE A FEW APPOINTMENTS WITH BRIDAL GOWN SHOPS

Once you have identified a few shops who stock the designs you are interested in trying on, phone them to make an appointment.  It is also worth researching your local wedding dress shops and taking along your scrapbook to see if they have similar designs to your favourites.  It is, however, important to only make an appointment with one shop per day, as it can be quite overwhelming trying on too many dresses in one day.

3. LIMIT THE NUMBER OF FAMILY/FRIENDS WHO GO WITH YOU

You really do need to limit the number of family/friends who you take with you to give advice on how you look in your chosen gowns.  Mum, sister and best friend is OK, but taking along a larger group of people will just result in inevitable chaos, as there will be far too many differing opinions and views for you to cope with.  You can always take a few different family/friends with you to see it when you have a future fitting appointment.

A few things to remember or bring when shopping for your gown are:

Wear something casual and easy to take on and off where you will be changing.

Take a pair of heeled shoes (roughly the height you will be having on the day) with you for trying on with the wedding dresses.

Wear sensible underwear as it is likely a shop assistant will be assisting you in and out of gowns.

Bring a strapless bra both for modesty, and for dress fit purposes.

4. SET A BUDGET & STICK TO IT

It is really important to set a budget and stick to it.  There really is no point in trying on dresses which are way over your budget range, and it will be rather upsetting to fall in love with a gown that you simply cannot afford.

5. BE OPEN MINDED

Sometimes we love a dress on a model, but when we try I on it doesn’t suit us at all.  Other times there may be a dress on a hanger that looks nothing but when tried on it looks fantastic.  You need to be a bit open minded to suggestions.  Don’t underestimate the value the shop owner can give in assisting you with options on the style of dress that will suit you.  This person after all sees hundreds of gowns on all shapes and sizes, and will instinctively know what style of gown will suit you, so maximise on his/her advice.

6. BUYING YOUR DRESS

Make sure you take your time, try on lots of dresses, compare prices, do not be pressurised into buying a dress on the first day.  Always shop around you may see the same dress cheaper in another shop.  Try negotiating on the price before buying, there is usually a deal to be had!

Buying a dress too early can be a problem if you later see another one and wish you had got that one instead.  Even if you think you have found ‘the one’ for you, always take your time there is no rush you can always go back to the first one you saw.

When making your final gown choice always ask yourself the following questions:

Do you feel beautiful and special?

Do you feel comfortable?

Can you move, dance and sit down?

Does the dress reveal more than you’d like making you feel self-conscious?

We hope you find this guide useful, and we look forward to seeing you at Lakeview Manor, our stunning wedding venue in Devon, for your special day in your amazing wedding dress.  Good luck.
